Cinémas du monde

The Cinémathèque Afrique (African Cinema Library houses one of the richest collections of African films. Established by the Ministry for Co-operation in 1961, it now forms part of the Afrique et Caraïbes en Créations / African and Caribbean Creative Arts Department, where it performs its role of promoting African cinema.

The Cinémathèque currently has a collection of 1,400 titles, including copies on different media: 16 mm, 35 mm, Beta SP, Umatic and VHS.

An active stock of more than 500 films (short and long fictional films, cartoons, documentaries – from the 60s to the present day) is available for use by organisations with a cultural, social or educational vocation as well as the French cultural network abroad.

For the purpose of promoting African film at international level and preserving this unique heritage, part of the stock has been digitised for the "Cinémathèque Afrique" DVD collection, making films available in 5 languages (collection managed in partnership with the External Audiovisual Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs).

The Cinémathèque Afrique welcomes visitors by appointment to look at the films and consult specialist works
