Support for creation and the mobility of artists

Culturesfrance Residences programmes give significant support to French creation in every discipline, helping artistes to be more mobile by giving them the chance to travel and stay abroad.

This immersion also offers them the opportunity to expand their professional network and to enter new markets. Every year forty artistes benefit from this system, either via the flexible grant programme "Extra Muros", enabling them to stay in the country of their choice, or via a residence in a structure in situ such as the Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto and the Triangle Studio in New York.

"Hors Les Murs" and the Villa Kujoyama

By including literature and research in the "Hors Les Murs" residences programme, Culturesfrance now offers new prospects in these areas. It will be possible for the French prizewinners to establish fruitful links, not only with creators, but also with academics and foreign researchers, enabling them to develop a greater diversity of projects over the long term.
Furthermore, through a Japanese partner structure, the Villa Kujoyama will gradually open its doors to one or more Japanese creators or researchers: joint Franco-Japanese creative projects could, in return, be welcomed with the assistance of the House of Japan in Paris and the use of the Récollets Grant. An exchanges and hospitality system will be set up for this purpose.

Increased cross-disciplinary effects

The notion of cross-disciplinary effects, characteristic of the department and the Residences sector, is set to intensify. Indeed, more than in the past, the sector will incorporate a "crossed policies" strategy, already followed with territorial communities and foreign countries, in particular when planning festivals and Seasons. To this end, several of the thirteen studios/housing units available for the cultural network at the Cité des Arts will be reserved for this operation.
