The 5 winning projets of 2016 Digital Lab Africa

Launched on June 1 at the DISCOP Africa Abidjan, a call for projects on the part of the Digital Lab Africa, an incubator for young multimedia talent, was open until August 31, 2016. The 15 projects selected among the 500 applications received took part in a final sales pitch competition at the DISCOP AFRICA Johannesburg on November 2-4.
Organized in South African on November 2-4, 2016 with the support of the Institut français, Digital Lab Africa hopes to serve as a stepping stone for creators of multimedia production from the African continent. The program, relying on French mentoring partners such as ARTE (web creation), OKIO-Studio (virtual reality), CCCP (video game) and 1D Touch/ Believe Digital (online music), aims at helping them implement their project.
On completion of the sales pitch competition at DISCOP AFRICA Johannesburg, the four winning projects will be attributed a prize of 3,000 Euros and an incubation ticket to Digital Lab Africa to help them develop their projects in the year 2017 via the sponsorship and support of French mentoring partners, a residency in France within digital clusters and participation in benchmark multimedia events.
The first edition, consisting of a call for Digital Lab Africa projects, attracted over 500 applications from about 30 Sub-Saharan African countries. Such success confirms the continent’s creativity in the multimedia sector as well as the Digital Lab Africa’s role as a stepping stone for African talent in this field.
