CinEd European Symposium Program in the Czech Republic

The first year of the European cinema education program, coordinated by the Institut français, will end at the Summer Film School Festival in the Czech Republic, on July 22-30, 2016.

Summer Film School Festival

The Summer Film School Festival, organized by the coordinator, CinEd, in the Czech Republic – the Association of Czech film clubs, has for many years been the biggest non-competitive festival in the country. Since 1964, it has been seeking to broaden the cinematographic horizons of young Czech film aficionados and develop a strong interest in cinema.

This year, the Summer Film School Festival will be honoring the cinematography of the Philippines. This program helps present the multitude of facets of Philippino cinema, its genres and historic evolutions. It will above give an opportunity to get to know the works of Philippino filmmaker Lino Brocka better, whose work has been shown at the Cannes Film Festival.

CinEd activities at the Festival Summer Film School

On July 29, following the opening of the Czech Republic Media Desk by Pavlína Kalandrová, all the partners of the seven partner countries will present this cinema education program to the public, with the aims and an assessment of its first results. Each national Coordinator will in turn give feedback on the first activities conducted in each country, especially in terms of training sessions and screenings since the program was launched, between April and May 2016. This will also give an opportunity to the team to discuss the learning tools and actions rolled out to develop cinema education in the different locations so as to build a critical overview with respect to the reality of the various contexts in which the program has been set up.

This presentation will be followed by the screening of the film ‘‘Pierrot le Fou’’ by Jean-Luc Godard, from CinEd’s European film collection, as well as an in-depth demonstration of learning materials by the Cinémathèque français/Le Cinéma Cent ans de jeunesse team.
