Disquaire Day Night in New York

For its second consecutive year, the Institut français has joined forces with the Action Club of French Independent Labels (CALIF), the organizer of the Disquaire Day in France, to present an across-the-Atlantic Disquaire Day Night.
On April 15, 2016 will be held in New York, at the Drom Club, a Disquaire Day Night for the Disquaire Day/Record Store Day, the largest event on the planet devoted to recorded music. Two French and Senegalese bands will play on that night, Minuit and Faada Freddy. Local record store owners will adopt the principle of a Disquaire Day passport giving free access to the concerts.
This event lays the groundwork for the Paris-New York Tandem – 5th edition of Tandems with the City of Paris –, to demonstrate, in the summer of 2016 in both cities, the vivacity of their artistic scene.
This is the 2nd year for the Institut français’ association with Disquaire Day. In 2015, it participated in the production of a vinyl record presenting two key bands on the emerging French and British scene, La Femme and Stealing Sheep.
The Export Bureau of New York and the Cultural Services of the Embassy of France are partners of the Disquaire Day Night.

Minuit, a band founded in 2013 by Raoul Chichin, Simone Ringer, Joseph Delmas (guitar), Tanguy Truhé (drums), Klem Aubert (bass), won the Jury Prize of the InrocksLab Contest in 2015, of which the Institut français was a partner.

Faada Freddy

Founding member of the Senegalese hip hop band, Daara J, Faada Freddy successfully took part in this gospel and soul project. Faada Freddy participated in the Équation Musique program in 2013 at the Current Music Market (MaMA) and will be on tour in India in the fall of 2016 with the support of the Afrique et caraïbes en créations (African and Caribbean Creation) program.

Disquaire Day

Since 2007, in the US and the UK, a special day is organized in favor of independent record stores, called Record Store Day. From Blur to Muse, including Metallica, a large number of artists have taken part in this day by offering, exclusively, through independent networks, pieces and records never heard before, by investing in special events such as encounters and miniature concerts.
In 2011, the Action Club of French Independent Labels became associated with Record Store Day by creating a French version, ‘‘Le Disquaire Day’’, including all players in the channel – artists, labels, distributors and, of course, record stores.
