Focus Visual Arts 2018

Establishing links between the foreign professionals and creative talents living in France, identifying new opportunities for the development of their careers, targeting influencer networks : these remains the key missions of the Institut français. Initiated by the Institut français, the Focus program aims to encourage professional exchanges and collaborations. It also aims to give a closer look at the contemporary art scene in France and its diversity through a 5 days tour in Paris and in region. The Focus Visual Arts upcoming edition will take place from October 15th to 19th 2018.
Organized twice a year, this professional trips are schedule alongside major visual art events in France. Since 2009, the Focus program has lead to the invitation of over 200 curators, critics, and directors of institutions, of which more than 100 exhibitions in the world were subsequently generated and organized with French artists.
 
The upcoming edition will take place from october 15th to 19th 2018 around several highlights events
 
  • The FIAC – International Contemporary Art Fair, that will take place in Paris from 18 to 21 october 2018
For its 45th edition from 18 to 21 October 2018 in Paris, FIAC will host a carefully balanced selection of leading international galleries in the iconic Grand Palais. FIAC consolidates the presence of major galleries Lafayette Group. Fresh, eclectic and edgy, this year’s selection is sure to attract wide-spread working in the field of modern and contemporary art and confirms its support of the emerging generation, notably via the Lafayette Sector organized in partnership with our official sponsor, the Galeries attention from connaisseurs and amateurs alike. Launched in 2016, On Site presents sculptures and installations in locations in and around the prestigious Petit Palais: the exhibition spaces, the garden, the esplanade, as well as the Avenue Winston Churchill which will be transformed into a pedestrian zone for the duration of FIAC. On Site is organized in collaboration with Christophe Leribault, (Director and curator of the Petit Palais) and Marc Olivier Wahler (directpr, MSU Broad Museum, East Lansing), associate curator for 2018. The list of participating galleries will be announced shortly.
 
  • Solo / Group exhibitions in major Paris institutions of French artists and artists living in France
The French art scene will take centre stage in the principal Parisian institutions this Fall. From exhibitions at the Centre Pompidou (The 2018 Marcel Duchamp’s Prize), to the Fondation Ricard ….  this Focus will include a series of visits to new projects and meetings with artists from different generations, most of whom have an international profile.
 
  • Visits to a number of art centres in Greater Paris and to artists' studios will complete the programme, along with time for exclusive meetings with several curators in Paris. The 6th edition of the Rennes Biennial will be also part of the orientation trip.
