Joël Pommerat in Brazil

For the first time in Brazil, author and stage director Joël Pommerat, distinguished with the Grand Prize of the Académie française was the guest of honor at the 3rd Mostra Internacional de Teatro de São Paulo.

On March 4-6, 2016, within the scope of the 3rd Mostra Internacional de Teatro de São Paulo, Joël Pommerat presented two of his creations, Ça ira (1) fin de Louis and Cendrillon.

Ça ira (1) fin de Louis

Ça ira (1) fin de Louis is a work of contemporary political fiction inspired by the 1789 French Revolution. What has led men to a quest for power? What new strategies can be set up between mankind and society?

Between fiction and reality, Ça ira speaks of such a fight for democracy. Delving into the history of the French Revolution is essential for Joël Pommerat at a time when Europe is jostled by a return to nationalism, to the Far Right and conservatism. What has inspired the author, what he essentially covers, is the revolutionary process, the mechanisms that govern an individual’s actions, the group dimension of political action.

Cendrillon (Cinderella)

Cendrillon is a contemporary reinterpretation of Grimm’s fairy tale, in a production of the National Theater of Brussels. The director enables us to face the tragic experiences of childhood – fear, solitude, nightmares and hopes – based on a founding element, the death of the mother. This work testifies to, for the first time at the Mostra Internacional de Teatro de São Paulo, the presentation of a work intended for children and the youth.

For the Festival opening on March 4, 2016 at the Ibirapuera auditorium – Oscar Niemeyer.
