Call for projects for distribution
of performing arts, visual arts and architecture

Alongside its large-scale projects set up with its partners and French cultural networks abroad, Institut français is offering a support programme for project leaders working on operations in concert with the cultural services of French embassies.

These calls for projects are available to :

  • cultural establishments abroad and the cultural services of French embassies
  • artists and groups living and working in France
  • cultural structures/operators (distribution sites, festivals, museums, etc.)around the world

As part of the programme, requests for support may be filed twice each year; they will be examined by a commission of professionals from each artistic field.

The first session will be held in autumn, for projects to be carried out the following year.

The second session will be held in spring, for projects to be carried out between July and December of the current year.

 The dates for each session will be published on the Institut français website.

* For your application to be registered, all fields must be filled in.

A French cultural establishment (French cultural centre, Embassy cultural department, Alliance française, French Language School etc.)
An artist or company living or working in France
A film producer or agent representing an artist in France
A global cultural organisation/operator (venue, festival organiser)

Project sponsors must


If you are an artist or live entertainment company (Dance and Theatre, Circus, Street Art, Puppetry)
- be a professional,
- be supported by a DRAC (Direction regional des affaires culturelles - Regional Cultural Affairs Department) or a public body or soon to be so,
- have recognised partners in the cultural milieu of the project host country,
- be informed about the French cultural department of the country where the project is to take place, if it is not directly involved.

If you are a musical performer
- have a professional environment,
- have published a recording in the past two years,
- be a member of an artist’s union (e.g. SACEM) (or be in the process of becoming a member)
- have recognised partners in the cultural milieu of the project host country,
- be informed about the French cultural department of the country where the project is to take place, if it is not directly involved.

If you are a cultural operator (venue or festival organiser) abroad
- be informed on the French cultural department of your country if it is not directly involved in the project,
- be a venue or festival organiser who has already held activities on an international scale.

If you are a French cultural establishment abroad
- have put together the project with a local partnership

Rules of selection

Selection will be carried out by a committee put in place by Institut français, made up of experts in each discipline.

Nature of help

Institut français support may only amount to a contribution to transport and accommodation costs The sum will be determined according to the overall budget of the operation and partnerships.

This deadline is postponed till 15th April 2011 for projects taking place in Japan.

The budget must not just relate to your application to Institut français: it must cover the entire operation.
It must be in euros and balanced in terms of outgoings and incomings. Any incomplete budget will render the project ineligible.

For festivals and large events, please send the overall budget for the entire event, as well as the specific budget of the operation which Institut français is requested to cover.
