Les Cinémas du monde Pavilion
As part of the Cannes Film Festival and Marché du Film, the Institut français is setting up the Les Cinémas du monde Pavilion, in partnership with France Médias Monde (RFI, France 24 and Monte Carlo Doualiya) and the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF).
United by a common desire to support the cultural and creative industries and promote dialogue between cultures, the Institut français and its partners are putting their resources and expertise at the service of the film sector to offer them a working and meeting space at the heart of the biggest of international festivals.
At the heart of the Cannes Festival International Village, the Cinémas du monde Pavilion welcomes French and international professionals from the sector. It reflects its year-round actions: working to promote French cinema and world cinema.
A platform for meetings, work and exchanges, the pavilion brings together artists, institutions and representatives of the French diplomatic network abroad. A place for dialogue between French and foreign cinema, the Pavillon is home to one of the Institut français' flagship programs, the Fabrique Cinéma, and offers a rich program of round tables, conferences, masterclasses, professional meetings and networking events throughout the festival.
It also promotes players in the sector in its broadest dimensions, including books and transmedia, via the Shoot The Book! program in partnership with SCELF, and virtual reality.
La Fabrique cinéma
La Fabrique Cinéma is a program designed to promote the emergence of young cinematographic creation from Southern and emerging countries on the international market, created by the Institut français in partnership with France Médias Monde and the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie.
Designed in close conjunction with the Cannes Film Festival and its Marché du Film, each year the Institut Français' Fabrique Cinéma selects ten 1st or 2nd feature film projects to present and introduce them in a privileged way to the industry and its decision-makers during the Cannes Film Festival.
The Fabrique cinéma's plus points
Thanks to this program, young directors and their producers benefit from support tailored to their project and level of professional experience. From the moment they are selected in March, they are advised by a personal coach, who helps them identify their needs (rewriting, co-production, distribution, target territories...) and draw up a program of targeted meetings with professionals likely to co-finance their project.
The program's winners receive pitch training with an expert, attend professional talks on production and market-related topics, and meet professionals from key sectors of the international film industry.
The Fabrique Cinéma of the Institut français has been committed for several years to strengthening the support of projects in writing or in development through partnerships. Particular attention is paid to French-language projects from the African continent.
During working sessions, the young directors have the opportunity to exchange ideas with the operation's sponsor, an internationally recognized filmmaker.
They benefit from privileged access to Cannes selections (Official Selection, Critics' Week, Directors' Fortnight, ACID, Festival Residence) and major professional events, and take part in Marché du Film programs (Producers Network, Spot the Composer...). Finally, they have the opportunity to meet the French and international press.
Speakers mentor the program's winners and runners-up, with the aim of identifying the meetings required for each project and advising the teams.
Shoot the Book!
Shoot the Book! is a program of professional meetings designed to support the presence of French publishers on major international audiovisual markets and to promote the audiovisual adaptation of French literary fiction. This action is more broadly in line with the transmedia approach being developed by the French Institute to strengthen the place of French books, in synergy with other cultural creative industries, on fast-growing or emerging rights markets.
