Laure Prouvost is from Lille, and returns to her home city to visit Deep See Blue Surrounding You / Vois ce bleu profond te fondre at the LaM again. The work is constructed metaphorically like a journey to the centre of multiple tentacles of an octopus, the head of which is the film directed by Laure Prouvost.
The film is the work’s central piece, following from Paris to Venice via Marseille a retired radio producer, a karate teacher, s storyteller, a flute player, a priest or a rapper. Many characters that are in principle very different, but who are connected to each other. “The octopus represents the animal and physical connection we have lost”, explains the artist.
To accompany the film, the other tentacles are made up of works around drawing, tapestry, ceramics, photography or glass, but also natural elements (water, smoke, pebbles, etc.) and recuperated objects. All of it forms an immersive work that invites the spectator to become a tentacle in the project in turn. At the LaM, Laure Prouvost has also captured the art brut collection to create brand-new interactions.
Laure Prouvost represented France at the Venice International Art Biennial in 2019. The French Pavilion at the Venice International Art and Architecture Biennials is put on by the Institut français, the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture.
