The Institut français is launching the digital campaign entitled #plusloin (#further), to promote French language learning among 18 to 25-year-olds, on a global scale.

Through this campaign, the Institut français and its partners are inviting young people from around the world to learn French in order to expand their horizons and increase their chances of success.

The #plusloin campaign

The #plusloin digital campaign encourages them to go further in their studies, their life experience, their dreams, their travels and their career path, thanks to the French language.

The programme is being rolled out via a website, social networks and a telephone number accessible on WhatsApp, through which young people from around the world will be able to converse with a native French speaker living in their country.

This programme highlights the experiences of celebrities and talents who all have the French language in common, such as Jane Birkin, Blanca Li and a host of international young influencers, with the aim of creating a global community of skilled French speakers from all backgrounds and origins, as well as promoting conversation in French.

Have a go! You can now try out the programme in six languages (English, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian): visit plusloin.io for a unique experience!

The key issues of the #plusloin campaign

The programme has the following goals:

  • To show that, on an international level, French is a modern language, one of openness and professional opportunities.
  • To strengthen ties between the French cultural network abroad and young people to help them develop their language skills and their chances of professional success on a national and international level

The aim is also to support and assist with the recovery of institutions in the French cultural network abroad that have been lastingly affected by the COVID-19, by creating a dynamic that encourages enrolment in language classes (including online and distance learning). The campaign is also co-constructed with the entire network, formed of the cultural services of French embassies, Instituts français and Alliances Françaises.

In line with the French President’s comprehensive plan to promote the French language and multilingualism, #plusloin aims to situate the French language within an open and pluralist perspective by showcasing the diversity and dynamism of the French-speaking sphere.

The Institut français is also pursuing a wide range of actions around the world that seek to break down barriers in the French-speaking cultural sphere.

#plusloin is organised in partnership with the Fondation des Alliances Françaises, France Médias Monde and TV5 Monde.
