Facing war - European dialogues

The "Facing war - European dialogues" project consists of a series of events bringing together leading figures from research, think tanks, the media and the public sphere to support discussion and debate on the upheavals in Europe caused by the war in Ukraine.

By bringing together these expert voices from across the continent, supporting cross-fertilization between disciplines, and also facilitating direct interaction with the general public, the project aims to contrast the global issues facing the European project with the local contexts in which European populations approach them.

"Facing war - European dialogues" is being developed around two axes:

  • An event base consisting of themed public meetings in various European cities;
  • A red thread entitled "Where is Europe? " allowing each city hosting the event ("Where is Europe in Prague?", "Where is Europe in Vilnius?", etc.) to highlight past or current "experiences of Europe".

European Dialogues in 2025

In continuity with previous editions, "Facing War - European Dialogues" highlights in 2025, in the context of current geopolitical tensions, the dual challenge of better understanding the narratives that shape local contexts and supporting citizen participation in democratic debate and process in Europe.

To this end, work with French students will be deepened, linking up with local universities at every stage. With the implementation of the FEF+ "Horizons partagés" program by the French Institute, the participation of young representatives from the Western Balkans will be encouraged.

Thirty years after the Dayton-Paris Accords, the European Dialogues in Bosnia-Herzegovina will provide a platform for civil society and youth in the region. From a European perspective, this event will explore, since the end of the war in the Balkans, societies' desires for the future and the role of trust in social bonds, peace processes and democratic resilience.
