All co-organisers have teamed up to create one single big event, to which we are more than happy to invite you. We have done our best to offer you a most relevant and appealing programme, which will have as a challenge to work through a territorial lens, creating artistic cooperation and common experiences of sharing sensitiveness and situations. This programme will bring together architects, artists, institutions, and personalities from various disciplinary fields. Together, we will reflect on spaces - urban and rural, that question and revisit imaginaries.

Le Cratère, scène nationale d'Alès

The scène nationale (a French network of 76 theatres) of Alès was created in 1991. Its new director, Denis Lafaurie, gave it the name of Le Cratère, referring to the fact that the room is below ground level, to the various craters found in the mines of the region and especially to this quote from the vulcanologist Haroun Tazieff who said that "It is on the edge of craters that we see the most beautiful shows". The Cratère can be considered as one of the most beautiful cultural facilities of the region, with its large theatre room containing 900 seats, its entirely modular room next door with 200 seats and its dance studio. Every cultural season, it presents more than 60 multidisciplinary shows and 180 performances. When creating Cratere Surfaces in 1999, le Cratere was one of the first scène nationale to create a street art festival.

Roundtable #1 “Living together”

Moderator : Margaux Darrieux

How will we live together? Such is the question raised by Hashim Sarkis, General Commissioner of the Venice Architecture Biennale for the 2021 edition. We hereby suggest, through the apostrophe ‘Living together’ to move beyond the future-oriented dimension of the issue, to focus on the present and illustrate it with deeds, words, concrete and committed manifestos, already laying down collective action as a prerequisite. By introducing projects in which collaboration and dialogue promote interaction and coexistence on up-and-coming territories, this roundtable will also be the opportunity to discuss professional career paths of architects, developing alternative practices that claim the proximity to users and uses.

Roundtable #2 “Unsuspected resources”

Moderator : Margaux Darrieux

This roundtable tackles the unsuspected potentials of built spaces and natural landscapes which are in abeyance, on hold, sometimes degraded, impoverished in appearance. The stake: to reveal to the inhabitants, elected representatives, decision makers, the strength and power of the imaginaries driven by these spaces, which can be a real driver for their transformation. This roundtable also focuses on the issue of mediation and the specific tools necessary to its design and dissemination. It will also address the diversity of spaces, be it a pavement, a ground floor, a path, a yard, a building, a shoreline, a city...questioned by the vision of residents and the provision of a collaborative toolbox.

Roundtable #3 "Bottom-up urban planning"ire

Moderator : Dimitra Kanellopoulou

This roundtable aims to readdress the issue of city making models and the way of considering the territory, both in terms of tools and temporality. It is an opportunity to cross the different schemes experimented in France, with a view to prompting discussion on three cross-cutting ideas linked to bottom-up urban planning: time, availability and democracy. What are the limits and pitfalls of a concept which has been arousing much interest among the project’s stakeholders in the last few years? What lessons can be learned from the experiences carried out in France regarding land management, the wide array of players involved and what are the limits of the exercise? What are the possible pathways towards developing or achieving more sustainable operations, faced with the emergence of new modes of governance and the growing complexity of access to resources (social, economic)? Such are the issues that this roundtable proposes to debate as a springboard to launch dialogue around a new way of thinking the city and to question it through artistic, architectural and hybrid practices.

Roundtable #4 "Territories with weakened ecosystems"

Moderator : Dimitra Kanellopoulou

This roundtable aims to explore and debate the weakening of continental and aquatic ecosystems. It deals with investigating the future of territories subject to climate, geological, industrial risks and to discuss the Anthropocene concept in the light of the current social and economic crisis. How can we cope with the risk and its consequences in our daily environment? How can we live with this risk, be it natural, industrial, sanitary or ecological? How can we overcome it and turn it into a source of projects and reflections for the urban or rural areas, through hybrid approaches standing at the crossroads of disciplines? How is resilience built up and using which tools? This roundtable will seek to shed light on these issues. The sharing of initiatives and experiments put forward by the invited professionals will enable further deepening of the topic of resilience, focusing on the issues of adaptability, memory and water cycle.

Circostrada Network

Circostrada is the European Network for Circus and Street Arts. It was created in 2003 and counts over 120 members coming from more than 35 countries. Its core mission is to further the development, empowerment and recognition of these fields at European and international level. Over the years, it has become an anchoring point for its members and a key interlocutor in the dialogue with cultural policy makers across Europe. Circostrada supports circus and street arts professionals by implementing a wide-range of advocacy and capacity building initiatives. The focus is on boosting professional exchange and innovation, gathering information and resources, fostering continuous training and knowledge-sharing.

Occitanie En Scène Regional Initiatives

Occitanie en scène is the regional agency dedicated to performing arts. It aims to contribute to the artistic and cultural development from a territorial perspective. With view of making it a dynamic region for the creators who live there, and, the land of emergence of new artistic forms, through the lens of territorial cultural planning and reduction of inequalities of access to artistic creation. Occitanie en scène also carries out missions of information and resources, advice and support for artist profile scouting, artistic and professional mobility, and the development of cooperation and international projects. Its fields of action cover the entirety of disciplines under performing arts: circus, dance, music, theatre, and their associated and crossed forms. Occitanie en scène has initiated a Cooperative of European and international projects whose raison d’être is to foster the emergence of a regional platform of support for innovation and European and international cooperation.
