The Institut français 2019 Fabrique Cinéma is pleased to announce the ten projects selected for the next Cannes Film Festival, from 14th to 25th May 2019.

BURKINA FASO: Religiously Modified Organism (“Organisme Religieusement Modifié”) by Simplice Ganou – Documentary, 2nd feature film, produced by Sawdah Carole Kafando / Tilé Fari Films
RWANDA: Tanzanite by Kantarama Gahigiri – Fiction, 2nd feature film, produced by Kivu Ruhorahoza / PW

INDONESIA: Crocodile Tears by Tumpal Tampubolon – Fiction, 1st feature film, produced by Mandy Marahimin / Tanakhir Films
LAOS: Raising a Beast by Xaisongkham Induangchanthy – Fiction, 1st feature film produced by Lao New Wave Cinema Productions
4 projects are first films and 6 projects are second films.
There will be 2 female directors and 7 female producers as well as 8 male directors and 3 male producers present (of whom 1 is a director/producer)
This is the first time an Indonesian project has been selected.
The Institut français Fabrique Cinéma
The Institut français Fabrique Cinéma is a programme for identifying and promoting filmmakers and producers from developing and emerging countries, which offers customised support for first and second film projects, in close collaboration with the Cannes Film Festival, the Film Market and many professional partners.
Each year, an internationally renowned director is chosen as a sponsor. A true mentor, this person devotes several working sessions to the award recipients at the Cannes Film Festival.
The name of the sponsor will be announced on 28th March 2019.
Since 2009, La Fabrique Cinéma de l’Institut français has involved:
- 101 selected projects
- 185 directors and producers invited from 61 countries, including 23 French-speaking countries (39% from Latin America, 24% from Africa, 9% from the Middle East, 22% from Asia and 6% from Eastern Europe).
In 2019, 11 films from La Fabrique are in post-production. They will be distributed in cinemas and festivals in the coming months.
My Favourite Fabric (“Mon tissu préféré”) by Gaya Jiji, Rafiki by Wanuri Kahiu, Amal by Mohamed Siam, The Mercy of the Jungle by Joel Karakezi, and The Need to Know (“La vie comme elle vient”) by Gustavo Pizzi are the latest films to result from projects presented to the Institut français Fabrique Cinéma.
The Institut français Fabrique Cinéma is a programme designed by the Institut français, in close collaboration with the Cannes Film Festival and in partnership with France Médias Monde, the Société des Auteurs, Compositeurs et Éditeurs de Musique (SACEM), the International Organisation of the Francophonie and with the support of Orange Studio.
