The General Assembly of the Commission Internationale du Théâtre Francophone (CITF), held from 6 to 11 June in Luxemburg, selected the 2022 laureates of the CREATION/CIRCULATION and EXPLORATION/RESEARCH programmes.

Since 1 March 2022, the Institut français has been acting as General Secretary of the Commission Internationale du Théâtre Francophone (CITF) at the request of the Ministry of Culture.

The Commission Internationale du Théâtre Francophone was founded in 1987 in order to support the realisation of multilateral theatrical creation and circulation projects. The founding members - Canada, France, Quebec and the Wallonie-Bruxelles Federation - have since been joined by the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

The CITF aims to share projects and experiences and to encourage the circulation of creators and works in the world of French-speaking theatre through financial aid offered on the basis of two programmes: one to support co-productions at all stages of creation, production and circulation, the other to enable an exploration or research phase in the form of artistic encounters that may lead to a co-production. CITF is keen to contribute to strengthening gender equity and to encourage eco-responsible approaches in the theatre sector.

To date, more than 300 projects have received financial support, giving French-speaking artists the opportunity to meet, compare and enrich their artistic approaches, to discover other French-speaking cultures and to reach out to new audiences. In order to encourage active encounters between Francophone artists from different backgrounds, CITF also organises "Pépinières à projets" (project incubators).
