The Institut français and Région Sud supporting Lebanese arts
Updated on 29/10/2021
As part of the emergency aid to Lebanon announced by the French President in September 2020, the Institut français, the Association des Centres Culturelles de Rencontre and the Institut français of Lebanon have joined forces to invite 100 Lebanese artists to take up residency in France, as part of the "NAFAS" emergency programme. In partnership with the Région Sud, nine Lebanese artists will be hosted in residence, starting in October 2021, in Marseille, Aix-en-Provence, Arles, Hyères and Cassis.
With the severe crisis affecting the Lebanese cultural scene, the Institut français, in partnership with Région Sud, is implementing the NAFAS programme to offer Lebanese artists a "breath of fresh air" and a creative interlude. These residencies open a window on the Lebanese cultural scene, through a diversity of research projects in different sectors of contemporary creation.
Alongside the Institut français and the residencies participating in the NAFAS programme, Région Sud wishes to participate in this emergency operation within the framework of Mediterranean cooperation that has long united Lebanon and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Welcoming Lebanese creators and their projects and supporting them in their exchanges with the region's cultural stakeholders will reinforce this rapprochement between our two shores.
