PROSPECT Singapore-Thailand: a French delegation of contemporary art in Southeast Asia
Published on 10 February 2026
From January 19 to 28, 2026, a delegation of French contemporary art professionals traveled to Southeast Asia as part of the PROSPECT Singapore-Thailand program. Coordinated by the Cultural Services of the French Embassies in Singapore and Bangkok, in collaboration with the Institut français, this mission was built around several major highlights: Singapore Art Week, the ART SG fair, the Singapore Biennale, as well as the Thailand Biennale in Phuket.
Developed by the Institut français and already tested in Japan, Korea and Taiwan, the PROSPECT program supports French contemporary art players in rapidly expanding artistic and economic territories, where the French presence is yet to be consolidated.
In Singapore, a veritable international platform and structured marketplace, the delegation benefited from a dense program of visits, conferences and professional meetings. These exchanges enabled them to gain a better understanding of the dynamics of the contemporary Asian scene, as well as to forge links with players from all over the region. The presence of several French artists at the Singapore Biennale and in various local institutions also testified to the growing recognition of the French scene abroad.
Three French artists were present at the Biennale de Singapour, with the support of the Institut français (IF Export 2025 program) and the French Embassy in Singapore: Kapwani Kiwanga, Pierre Huyghe and Tabita Rezaire.
In Phuket, the Biennale de Thaïlande offered a strong counterpoint to this market approach. This edition, under the theme Eternal Kalpa, offers a sensitive reflection on time, territories and local narratives. The participation of French artists, fully integrated into the curatorial proposition, has fostered an in-depth dialogue with Thai artists and professionals. Works by Nathalie Muchamad, Pauline Curnier Jardin and Noémie Goudal were thus presented in Phuket, with the support of the Institut français (IF Export 2025 program) and the French Embassy in Thailand.
After still experimental editions in Japan, Korea and Taiwan, this Singapore-Thailand edition marks a stage of maturity for the PROSPECT program. It represents a model that will be developed in other artistic territories and emerging markets, with the support of the PICC - Cultural and Creative Industries Program. Against a backdrop of increasing globalization of the art scene, supporting French professionals in these territories remains a major strategic challenge for boosting the visibility and influence of French contemporary creation.
This program was implemented thanks to the ambassade de France à Singapour, the French embassy in Thailand and the Institut français, with the contribution of the CPGA - comité des galeries d'art.
