Reviews on Bangladesh (April 7-12, 2025), offers a window onto a country that recent events, linked to the Monsoon Revolution and the resulting political instability, place at the heart of many challenges. The public is invited on an unprecedented journey, far from the usual pessimistic clichés about Bangladesh (poverty, climatic disasters, pollution), to present a positive image of its dynamism, cultural richness and new ambitions.

The partners of the Semaine bangladaise en France are the Alliance française de Dhaka, the Institut français , the French Embassy in Bangladesh, the association chaired by Erik Orsenna , Initiative pour le Futur des Grands Fleuves , the Cité de l'architecture et du patrimoine , the INALCO and the Théâtre national de la Colline.

A multidisciplinary program

The event kicks off at the Cité de l'architecture et du patrimoine on April 7 with a screening of Shaheen Dill-Riaz's documentary Bamboo Stories, a sensory immersion in the daily lives of bamboo transporters on Bangladeshi rivers. The screening will be followed by a talk (to be confirmed) by writer Éric Orsenna, on the symbolism of rivers as mirrors of societies.

The day will continue with high-profile talks, including architect Kashef Chowdhury and a round-table discussion bringing together architects and urban planners around the theme of the "laboratory of old Dhaka", before concluding with a poetic video performance by Ramona Poenaru and Gaël Chaillat.

On April 10, at INALCO, climate issues will be at the heart of discussions. A screening of the film Delta du Gange by Laurent Weyl and Robert Iseni, followed by a round-table discussion, will provide a poignant account of environmental migrations and the mutations of the city of Dhaka. An animated short film by Afroza Hossain Sarah, Le Chant des baleines, will close this engaging evening.

On April 12, the Théâtre national de la Colline will host an exceptional literary evening with a reading directed by Wajdi Mouawad of texts by major Bangladeshi writers, followed by a round-table discussion featuring authors and translators. The evening will end in music with a concert by Rahul Ananda, Manu Théron and their guests.
