Produced by RFI, in partnership with the French Institute's Cinémathèque Afrique, the podcast Cinéastes d'Afrique proposes a dive into the history of African cinema.

With the podcast series Cinéastes d'Afrique, RFI and the French Institute's Cinémathèque Afrique invite audiences to rediscover the works and voices that have shaped the history of 7ᵉ art on the African continent. This series offers unprecedented access to rare archives, exclusive interviews and embodied narratives that shed new light on the links between creation, memory and society.

Through interviews, sound documents, expert insights and restored film extracts, Cinéastes d'Afrique unveils a history of cinema that is deeply committed, bold and rooted in the political and social realities of the continent. Each episode is carried by the voice of a personality from the world of culture, media or sport, offering audiences a sensitive and contemporary point of view.

La Cinémathèque Afrique

Created in 1961, the Cinémathèque Afrique brings together one of the world's largest collections of films from the African continent made from the 1950s to the present day, with 1,700 titles referenced, from 45 countries. Of these films, 650 have non-commercial distribution rights negotiated by the Institut français, for public screenings.
