Maya Da-Rin

The Brazilian visual artist and documentary film-maker Maya Da-Rin has directed her first feature-length film, The Fever. This film was released in France on 30 June 2021, and was notably developed at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016 thanks to the support of the Institut français Fabrique Cinéma. We interviewed Maya Da-Rin just before The Fever was released in France, and she answered our questions about what inspires her, the themes that are important to her and the development of her first feature-length film.

Danielle Arbid

The Franco-Lebanese director Danielle Arbid was selected in the Official Competition at the Cannes Film Festival 2020 for her last film, Simple Passion. This year she supports the award winners of the Institut français Fabrique Cinéma as patron. They are developing their first or second feature-length film in Cannes, during the Festival.

The Unknown Saint, by Alaa Eddine Aljem

The Unknown Saint was presented at Cannes in the Critic’s Week section in 2019 and is the first feature-length film by Moroccan director Alaa Eddine Aljem. The film tells the story of a thief who wants to get the loot he hid ten years earlier, which is now under what is a mausoleum today.

Aïcha Macky

Aïcha Macky has already made two short films and two films, work which shows undertakings she makes. Her film Zinder, the project of which the Fabrique Cinéma supported in 2018, was presented in 2021. It is the film she shot of her home town, Zinder in Niger, which changed in front of her camera over a few years.

Danielle Arbid and Wissam Hojeij Masterclass

As part of the Fabrique Cinéma 2021, the director Danielle Arbid and composer Wissam Hojeij, who has produced the music for numerous short films, will each give a masterclass at Cannes, on 8 and 10 July respectively at 10.30am.
