With Digital November, the Institut français and the French cultural network abroad (Instituts français, Alliances Françaises, cultural services of French embassies) celebrate digital cultures their full diversity. This international event gathers every year more participants, with over 80 participating countries and 130 cities who propose on site and online events in 2022.
Workshops, debates, performances, exhibitions, escape games, podcasts, creations broadcasted on social networks: Digital November’s 6th edition invites us to question the various aspects, practices and stakes of digital uses all around the world.
Once again, digital creation will be presented in its most diverse forms, at the crossroads of many artistic fields.
Video games and esport tournaments will gather the gamer communities from Mexico, Kenya, or from Mauritius and countries of the Sahel region, hho will come together for the regional championship “Sahel Esport Champions” (Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Chad, Senegal).
Immersive experiences are also put forward in many events, thanks to the Institut français’ VR Selection which presents the best of French virtual reality productions (Georgia, Algeria, South Korea, United Kingdom, Indonesia, Morocco, Nigeria, etc.).
Launched on the occasion of this 6th edition of Digital November, the Unlock Selection invites to discover the richness of the digital creation intended for mobile devices, from podcasts to augmented reality, mobile video games, innovative books and series created for online or social networks broadcasting (Turkey, Algeria, Quebec, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, United States of America, Irak, Libya, etc.).
These events are conceived in the framework of partnerships with local cultural actors: festivals, financing markets, professional gatherings, general public events, museums, etc.
The role of digital cultures in our societies is tackled in numerous Digital November programmings this year: understanding our relationship to digital practices is the goal of the exhibition Escape, journey to the heart of digital cultures presented in many countries (Benin, Brazil, Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Cameroun, Cyprus, Colombia, Denmark, Kosovo, Kenya, Lettonia, Madagascar, Morocco, Niger, Netherlands, Poland, Italy, Slovakia, Togo, etc.).
Other major issues at stake in our digital era are also deciphered across the world: to study the relationship between new technologies and the environment, to understand the new uses of the Web3 and more specifically NFTs and the metaverse ; to explore how digital tools can enhance access to heritage ; to analyze the role of women in the digital ecosystem or how new technologies can reinvent the learning of the French language.
