Le 17 mai, les lauréats de La Fabrique Cinéma 2024 et le parrain du programme, le réalisateur Philippe Lacôte, ont eu l’honneur de monter les marches du Festival de Cannes aux côtés de Franck Riester, ministre délégué chargé du Commerce extérieur, de l’Attractivité, de la Francophonie et des Français de l’étranger, d’Eva Nguyen Binh, présidente de l’Institut français, de Matthieu Peyraud, directeur de la diplomatie culturelle, éducative, universitaire et scientifique au Ministère de l'Europe et des Affaires étrangères et de Marie Buscail et Anne-Solenne Lea de la Sous-direction de la Culture et des Médias au Ministère de l'Europe et des Affaires étrangères . Ils étaient également accompagnés par les partenaires officiels du Pavillon, représentés par Marie-Christine Saragosse, Présidente-Directrice générale de France Médias Monde et Enrico Chiesa, Responsable cinéma (Fonds Image de la Francophonie) à l’OIF. L'Institut français a aussi invité les journalistes Kachi Offiah et Ekow Barnes à découvrir le Pavillon les Cinémas du monde. À travers le Pavillon les cinémas du monde et le programme La Fabrique Cinema, l’Institut français mets en avant les cinémas du monde et les acteurs du cinéma français à l’international. 

In 2002, he filmed his childhood neighborhood during the first three weeks of curfew that plunged his country into armed rebellion. This resulted in "Chronicles of War in Côte d'Ivoire," both a portrait of a country in crisis and an autobiographical narrative. In 2014, his first feature film "Run" was selected at Cannes (Un Certain Regard). "Night of the Kings," his second feature film selected for La Fabrique Cinéma, premiered at the Venice Film Festival. Produced by Banshee Films, it won numerous awards, including the Amplify Voices Award at TIFF and the Youth Jury Award at Rotterdam. It was distributed in the USA by NEON and was shortlisted for the 2021 Oscars.

In addition to his career as a screenwriter-director, Philippe Lacôte worked as a production assistant at Atria, where he collaborated with filmmakers such as Souleymane Cissé, Rithy Panh, and Raoul Peck. He later co-founded Wassakara Productions, which supports emerging talents and develops series in Africa.

Philippe Lacôte is currently in post-production for the feature film "Killer Heat" for Amazon Studios. Simultaneously, he is developing a new feature film, "The 7 Gold Thieves," which he co-directs with Delphine Jaquet. Set in a Sufi community in Harlem, the story follows a family's exile after being struck by a curse. "The 7 Gold Thieves" is a recipient of the writing residency from "la Villa Albertine" (French cultural network in the United States). 

The sixteenth session of La Fabrique Cinéma de l'Institut français will take place at the Festival de Cannes from 14 to 25 May.

The ten selected projects are:

• PHILIPPINES – Daughters of the Sea by Martika Escobar, produced by Monster Jimenez (Arkeofilms) / 2nd feature-length film.
• IVORY COAST – Étranger by Joël Akafou, produced by Laurent Bitty (Les Films du Continent) / 2nd feature-length film.
• ALGERIA – Refuge by Abdallah AlKhatib, produced by Salah Issaad (IFP Productions) / 2nd feature-length film.
• CUBA / BRAZIL – Moa by Marcel Beltrán, produced by Paula Gastaud (Mediocielo Films) / 2nd feature-length film.
• JAMAICA – Raised by Goats by Gibrey Allen, produit par Nadean Rawlins (RAW Management Ltd.) / 2e long-métrage. 
• DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – Resistencia by Yanillys Perez, produced by Siddhartha Mata (YPR Films) 2nd feature-length film.
• NORTH MACEDONIA – Spring Cleaning by Marija Apcevska, produced by Robert Naskov (Kino Oko) / 1st feature-length film.
• IRAN / UKRAINE – The Echo of the Leopard by Hanna Jalali, produced by Moeinoddin Jalali (2 People Production) / 1st feature-length film.
• PERU – Le Dernier Roi by Victor Checa, produced by Jimena Hospina (Candu Films) / 2nd feature-length film.
• THAILAND – Tremble Like a Flower by Pathompon Tesprateep, produced by Cattleya Paosrijaroen (185 Films Co. Ltd.) / 1st  feature-length film.

The selection is made up of:

• 9 fiction films and 1 documentary ;
• 4 female directors, 6 male directors, 6 female producers, 4 male producers ;
• 7 second feature-length film projects and 3 first feature-length film projects ;
• 5 OIF countries (2 members: Ivory Coast, North Macedonia and 3 observers : Dominican Republic, Ukraine, Thailand).

This is the first time that projects from Jamaica and North Macedonia have been selected at La Fabrique.  

As a place for dialogue between French cinema and foreign cinemas, the Pavilion Les Cinémas du Monde, which houses La Fabrique Cinéma of the Institut français, will once again welcome French and international industry professionals for a rich program of roundtable discussions, conferences, and masterclasses. The evolution of ecosystems and the renewal of narratives in the African continent, Lithuanian cinema in anticipation of the Lithuania Season in France 2024, Brazilian initiatives in support of cinema for the France-Brazil Season 2025, Asian markets for audiovisual adaptation (Shoot The Book!), and the prevention of SVSH (sexual and sexist violence and harassment) will be among the topics discussed at this 2024 edition. The International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) will announce the 24 new laureates of the 1st commission of the Francophonie Image Fund. The Pavilion will also be an opportunity to showcase the diversity of actions of the French cultural network abroad.
