For its 40th edition in 2021, the Fête de la Musique will celebrate all genres of music, the diversity of practices and musical expressions, and amateur as well as professional musicians.
For the second year in a row, the Institut français is teaming up with Zebrock and its Mélo platform to highlight initiatives of the French cultural network abroad. It’s the opportunity to discover several hundred artists and over 100 events across five continents!

Music in all forms
To celebrate the Fête de la musique, we also invite you to discover artists and works to celebrate music in all its diversity.
Cinema!, a project by Jeanne Cherhal and Thierry Frémaux
Thierry Frémaux, director of the Cannes Film Festival and director of the Lumière Institute in Lyon, invited Jeanne Cherhal to the Lumière Festival in 2019 and 2020. On her first appearance, the author and composer performed the theme from The Godfather, a challenge that would lead to the development of an entire show. Jeanne Cherhal and Thierry Frémaux agreed to answer our questions about this project, soberly entitled Cinéma!
Punkovino
A project launched by journalist Tina Meyer with Yoann Le Gruiec, Punkovino is a web series featuring profiles of French, Georgian, Belgian, and Italian winemakers. This European tour features colourful characters who produce natural wines, running counter to the sector’s industrialisation. The very well paced episodes always end with some music: the wine is tasted by a musician or band who then reinterpret it through music.
The socio-political videos of Noël Keserwany
Lebanese artist Noël Keserwany and her sister Michelle produce politically engaged music videos to raise political awareness. Noël Keserwany also collaborates with NGOs to produce viral awareness campaigns.

Majnun, author, composer and performer
Born in Senegal in 1981, Majnun moved to France at the age of 19 to study law, which he quickly abandoned to devote himself to music. He released his début album Kindépili in 2017. Following the Décolonial Tour in 2019, a live album will be released later this year.
Les Divas du Taguerabt, by Karim Massaoui
Music is also in the spotlight in the latest short film by director Karim Massaoui. He portrays the Divas of Taguerabt, mysterious singers from the Algerian desert. This short film is one of the four films that make up the work Celles qui chantent.
Floy Krouchi, composer and instrumentalist
Floy Krouchi is the inventor of a new musical instrument, the FKbass, which allows her to make play her instrument using electronic processing in real time on her computer. Interviewed on her return from a residency in India, she explains her work as a composer and her attraction to Indian classical music.
Théo Ceccaldi, Violinist, violist and composer
Winner at the Victoires du jazz in 2017, Théo Ceccaldi is particularly known for his work with the trio Django. Returning from a tour in Central America, he answered our questions last year about his passion for music, his methods of composing and the importance of jazz in the countries he visits.
Béatrice Thiriet, composer
During a masterclass co-organised by the Institut français and SACEM in the summer of 2020, Béatrice Thiriet took time out to talk about her career, between music and cinema, parity in the profession of film music composer as well as her next projects.
The Institut français supports the Fête de la Musique internationally through its partnership with the Mélo platform.
The Institut français offers several programmes in the field of music such as the Franco-German-Swiss fund for contemporary music, Impuls neue Musik, and the Collection spéciale Fête de la musique, exclusively composed of digital content that aims to add to the programming of the French cultural network abroad.
