Design Week Mexico
Design Week Mexico is a platform created in 2009 by México Territorio Creativo to promote Mexican and international design. Design Week Mexico encourages reflection on local challenges from a design perspective through its programming.
A number of French designers will be actively participating in this fifteenth edition, through programmes such as Visión y Tradición, Inédito and Design House. The presence of French design in Mexico will also be highlighted during theParcours Francés, a series of events in galleries and cultural venues in the capital with a special link to our country. Finally, round-table discussions on the specific features of French design in the fields of ecodesign and arts and crafts will be held in the presence of esteemed guests.
French involvement
Visión y Tradición
The Visión y Tradición creative residency took place in the state of Querétaro, the guest state for Design Week Mexico 2023. From 5 to 12 August, five French designers explored the region's traditional crafts with five Mexican artisans from local communities. They subsequently worked with them to design and produce objects.
These pieces will be exhibited during Design Week Mexico 2023 at the National Museum of Anthropology from 11 to 29 October 2023. A unique opportunity to witness the creative synergy of this intercultural dialogue!
Inédito
Inédito is an exhibition showcasing new pieces of utilitarian design and art-objects. Each creation on display is unique and has never been seen, distributed or marketed before.
Over the coming months, four pairs of French and Mexican designers will be sharing their expertise and working remotely to create an exclusive piece for the exhibition.
The private view will take place on 13 October at Espacio CDMX in Chapultepec Park, in the presence of the French and Mexican designers. The exhibition will be on show until 14 February 2024, the closing date of the next edition of Zona MACO.
The duos selected for this programme are as follows:
- Rebecca Fezard and Elodie Michaud from Hors-Studio and Raul de la Cerda
- Steven Leprizé from ARCA studio and cabinet makers Paz y Bien
- Clarisse Merlet and Théo Robert from FabBrick and Cröm-D, an organisation specialising in upcycling
- Pierre Salagnac and MS Bronce.
Design House
Design House invites leading architects and interior designers to imagine new spaces. Each space becomes a work of art in which the perfect harmony between the furniture, lighting and accessories can be appreciated. For this fifteenth edition, talented professionals from Mexico and France will be bringing their unique and sophisticated touch to spaces designed specifically for this event.
The 2023 edition of Design Week México will offer a unique encounter between a contemporary vision of France, blending tradition and modernity, and the cultural and creative wealth of Mexico, creating a space for inspiration and exchange that will leave its mark on the world of design.
