The Fabrique des résidences programme is open to all network branches, including Instituts français, Alliances Françaises, and binational cultural centres, regardless of their geographical location. Its goal is to support the cultural network from the design to the implementation of new sustainable residency programmes or during the development phase of an existing programme.
The initiative offers multi-year funding over three years, enabling branches to:
- Implement best practices for hosting artists and creators in residence;
- Structure their residency programme over time and within their territory;
- Foster a dynamic approach to development and build partnerships to ensure the programme’s sustainability;
- Join, in the medium term, a network of residencies within the diplomatic network, where experiences, expertise, and communication strategies will be shared.
Les projets soutenus dès 2025
- Les résidences EXTRA, Alliance Française de Bruxelles-Europe
Disciplines : digital art, artistic video games, visual arts, design, crafts
Project Summary: This project aims to connect French artists with Brussels' experimental and European art scene, as well as with Flanders' creative ecosystem. It establishes a network of five residencies in Belgium for emerging artists in visual arts, digital art, artistic video games, design, and crafts. This residency network is supported by partnerships with five Belgian cultural institutions and two French structures for cross-residency exchanges. It will be integrated into the EXTRA programme, dedicated to supporting and promoting contemporary French creation in Belgium, led by the French Embassy.
- Villa N’Zuo, Institut français de Côte d'Ivoire
Disciplines : visual arts, curatorial practices, design
Project Summary: This project aims to establish a residency programme in Côte d'Ivoire for French artists with historical or artistic connections to the African continent (artists from Africa, Afro-descendants, Caribbean artists, or those with projects deeply rooted in Ivorian territory). Villa N’Zuo will operate between Abidjan and Grand-Bassam, in partnership with two local institutions. Artists, collectives, or artist families will be hosted for one- to two-month research residencies in visual arts, curatorial practices, or design.
- CREACOLOMBIA, Institut français de Colombie
Disciplines : literature, graphic novels, visual arts, dance, urban arts
Project Summary: This project aims to create a network of residencies in Colombia for French artists in Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, and Barranquilla, in partnership with local cultural and artistic institutions. The programme will offer seven annual residencies, allowing seven French artists each year to benefit from one-month (or longer) research residencies. Each residency will specialize in one discipline, potentially intersecting with another discipline or a theme specific to the host venue or local context.
- Ateliers du Nil, Institut français d’Égypte
Disciplines : crafts, architecture/heritage, digital art, curatorial practices
Project Summary: This project seeks to relaunch a residency programme in Egypt for French artists and creators. In partnership with two local institutions—one in Cairo and one in Alexandria—the programme will foster exchanges between French and Egyptian artists. At least three artists per year will be hosted for research and creation residencies in crafts, architecture, heritage, digital art, and curatorial practices.
- Nouveau Grand Tour / Romania, Institut français de Roumanie
Discipline : visual arts
Project Summary: This project aims to create a national residency programme in Romania in collaboration with six cultural venues in Bucharest, Cluj, Timisoara, and Iași. Each year, six recently graduated French artists will benefit from research residencies within innovative Romanian structures. The programme also includes seminars and meetings to introduce the artists to residency challenges and connect them with key cultural stakeholders in Romania.
- Nouveau Grand Tour, Institut français d’Italie
Discipline : multidisciplinary
Project Summary: Nouveau Grand Tour is a multidisciplinary residency programme aimed at young European talents under 30 across all fields of artistic creation. This project aims to strengthen several key aspects of the programme by improving residency conditions (introducing a minimum residency duration, establishing a fixed stipend and ecological grant, and enhancing support for artists during and after residencies) while structuring the partner network to ensure better visibility and coherence of the programme.
- SE BRANCHER NATURE, Alliance Française de San José, Costa Rica
Disciplines : visual arts, digital arts, sound art, sound design
Project Summary: This project aims to create a residency programme in Costa Rica for emerging artists interested in exploring themes of nature, ecology, and biodiversity preservation.
