La Fête du court métrage in partnership with the Institut français

As a partner of the Fête du court métrage (Festival of Short Film) since its creation, the Institut français supports its promotion every year around the world. The Festival is an opportunity to strengthen support for French short films internationally and to promote, via the French cultural network and its many partners abroad, new film collections designed for public screenings that encourage meetings, debates, artistic exchanges and cultural diversity.

This year, the Institut français is offering a collection from French Film Schools with six short films by talented students from the Gobelins, Fémis, Fresnoy and Ateliers Varan film schools, whose works are working to demonstrate that a world of greater freedom is possible!

These 6 short films are available on IFcinéma, the Institut français' platform which offers a catalogue of over 2,500 titles enabling the cultural network and its partners to show French films around the world.

Texte
La Fémis, École nationale supérieure des métiers de l'image et du son, founded in 1986 (following on from Idhec) is one of the four public film schools in France and one of a select group of internationally renowned film schools. The school's main activity is initial training in the film professions: director, cinematographer, producer, scriptwriter, editor, sound engineer, set designer, script editor, distributor and exhibitor.
Every year, the school produces over 100 short films, both fiction and documentary. More than mere exercises, these films are true works in themselves, selected and awarded at several festivals (Cannes, Berlin, Clermont-Ferrand, etc.), foreshadowing and announcing the talents to come.

Texte
Le Fresnoy - Studio national des arts contemporains was born out of the desire of the Ministry of Culture and Communication to establish a new type of higher arts education establishment in the north of France, a centre of excellence of national and international scope, whose credentials have been expressed in phrases such as "an IRCAM for the plastic arts" or "a high-tech Villa Medici". Its pedagogy, based primarily on the production of works of all kinds whose common feature is the integration of professional audiovisual techniques, makes it a totally new place of production, experimentation and dissemination.

Texte
Created at the instigation of Jean Rouch, the Ateliers Varan have been offering documentary film training since 1981. It is not a school in the traditional, academic sense of the term: its working methods take the principle of teaching by doing to the extreme. For each student, everything revolves around making films 'in real life'. In addition to the world-renowned 12-week filmmaking course, the Ateliers Varan have created a series of professional training courses that explore current documentary practices, from writing a project to learning how to edit and how to make a film with sound.
