20 projects have been selected to take part in the final of the 8th Danse élargie competition, to be held at the Théâtre de la Ville-Sarah Bernhardt (Paris 4th arrondissement) on 15 and 16 June 2024. The finalists were selected from 366 entries from 48 different countries.
The competition celebrates the diversity of languages and cultures, openness to all disciplines (dance, theatre, circus, puppetry, visual arts) and the crossroads between artistic practices. With the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games just around the corner, this 8th edition will be an exceptional event, as it returns to its original home at the Théâtre de la Ville-Sarah Bernhardt.
The Danse élargie biennial and international competition was launched in 2010 by the Théâtre de la Ville and the CCN de Rennes et de Bretagne. Its aim is to showcase projects with an "expanded conception of dance and the art of movement, presented in a form lasting a maximum of 10 minutes for a minimum of three performers".
Collectif (La)Horde, Johanna Faye and Saïdo Lehlouh (members of Collectif FAIR-E), Tatiana Julien and Mohamed El Khatib are just some of the artists to have taken part in the competition. In 2022, Leïla Ka was awarded 1st prize in the 7th edition of the competition.
The French cultural network is involved in supporting some of the selected artists.
