On the initiative of the French Embassy in Indonesia - Institut français d'Indonésie (IFI) and the French Embassy in Thailand, with the support of the Institut français via the ICC Program (PICC), an official Indonesian delegation participated for the first time in Paris Games Week (October 30 to November 2, 2025) at the Parc des expositions de la Porte de Versailles.
This presence marks an important step in the strengthening of cooperation between France and Indonesia in the field of cultural and creative industries, and more particularly in the video game sector.
Launched by the French Embassy in Indonesia - Institut français d'Indonésie (IFI) and the French Embassy in Thailand, with the support of the Institut français via the ICC Program (PICC), the Game Connect SEA initiative aims to strengthen exchanges between French, Indonesian and Thai professionals in a rapidly expanding regional market.
For the third year running and thanks to this program, France was one of the main foreign delegations at the "B to B" IGDX (Indonesia Game Developer Exchange) organized each year in Bali at the beginning of October.
The return visit to France, funded by the Indonesian Ministry for the Creative Economy, confirms the mutual interest of the players involved and amplifies exchanges in a sector that is establishing itself as a major vector for cooperation and innovation between France and Indonesia. It is one of the concrete outcomes of the Borobudur Declaration establishing a Franco-Indonesian cultural strategy adopted during the French President's State visit last May - which enshrines a partnership-based and co-financed cooperation. This declaration was followed by the first Strategic Cultural Dialogue chaired by the Minister of Culture on July 15, in the presence of her counterparts, the Indonesian Ministers of Culture and of the Creative Economy.
With over 2.3 billion mobile game downloads between January and August 2024, Indonesia is the leading video game market in Southeast Asia. Its strong growth is stimulating a creative ecosystem in full structuring, now aiming for exports and international co-development.
It is in this buoyant context that the exchanges between France and Indonesia forged as part of Games Connect SEA have already produced tangible results:
The RIVRS studio, a French pioneer in UGC gaming, announced at Gamescom Asia in Bangkok the launch of its Asian operations with a strategic investment of one million dollars to support creators and studios in the region - with Indonesia among its priority markets.
Guillaume Jamet, a former participant in the Game Connect SEA program, has co-founded Indiesche Partners, an Indonesian gas pedal dedicated to discovering, nurturing and promoting the best video game talent in Indonesia and Southeast Asia, to help them become globally successful studios.
Indonesian students now benefit from scholarships to attend top-level training courses in France, notably at GOBELINS Paris (animation), as part of the LPDP-France program.
Conducted by M. Muhammad Neil El Himam, Deputy Minister for Digital and Technological Creativity, the delegation included many professionals including the President of Asosiasi Game Indonesia (AGI) M. Shafiq Husein, also head of the Gambir studio, as well as Arsanesia and Plexus Studio.
During three days, the delegation benefited from a program of professional meetings and visits drawn up especially for the occasion.
