2026: a year of committed culture with the Institut français

In a world plagued by crises, the Institut français has opted for commitment, dialogue and creativity. It unveils 10 major highlights that will structure its action in 2026.
1. The "Voyage en Ukraine" Season
The "Voyage en Ukraine" Season continues, with programming that celebrates the resilience at the exceptional vitality of the Ukrainian art scene. Until the end of March.

2. Yto Barrada takes over the French Pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale
With a sensory project on the work of time and forms of transmission. From May 9 (May 6 for professional days) to November 22.
3. The "Africa Forward" Summit
At the "Africa Forward" summit, the Institut français is working with African and French players in the cultural and creative industries, at the heart of the continent's economic and cultural dynamics. May 11 and 12 in Nairobi.
4. The Cannes Film Festival
In Cannes, the Institut français takes up residence in a new venue and puts the spotlight on emerging and committed cinema. From May 12 to 23.
5. The Mediterranean Season
The Mediterranean Season opens on May 15 in Marseille with a major festival and will celebrate throughout France and partner countries the richness, diversity and vitality of Mediterranean cultures, as well as the depth of human and artistic exchanges. From May 15 to October 31.

6. La Nuit des Idées
The 11th Nuit des Idées will take place at the Quai d'Orsay and throughout the year on all five continents, around the theme "Opening the Way". Dates to be announced.
7. European Dialogues
European Dialogues examine the political, cultural and societal upheavals generated in Europe by the war in Ukraine, through meetings, debates and intellectual exchanges. From May 27 to 29 in Athens and in the autumn in Lisbon.
8. Le français c'est stylé!
The Institut français reaffirms its commitment to the French language with this slogan for meetings, seminars and events. All year round, in France and around the world.
9. Anniversaries of diplomatic relations with Korea and Mexico
The anniversaries of diplomatic relations between France and Korea (140 years) and between France and Mexico (200 years) will be supported by the Institut français for their cultural and educational aspects. All year round, in France, Korea and Mexico.
10. FOCUSES
Throughout 2026, the Institut français will roll out a structuring program of FOCUSES and meetings bringing together French and international professionals and covering all artistic sectors. Several dates in 2026, in Avignon, Caen, le Havre, Lille, Nantes, Rennes and Vienna.
