A Look Back at the FOCUS BD & Webtoon – Création Africa by the Institut français

5 min

As part of Création Africa, the Institut français organized a FOCUS BD & webtoon from October 21 to 27, spanning Angoulême, Paris, and Saint-Malo. The program for the delegation of 17 African professionals included the International Comic Strip Meetings, the Quai des Bulles festival, a visit to the "BD à tous les étages" exhibition at the Centre Pompidou, and a half-day of professional exchanges on webtoon development, in partnership with the Centre national du livre at the Institut français in Paris.

This FOCUS aimed to support the mobility of African professionals in these sectors within the French market, promote the dynamism of African BD and webtoon industries in France, and strengthen exchanges and collaborations between African professionals and their French counterparts.

This portfolio invites you to relive the key moments of this initiative through images.

The FOCUS Programme of the Institut français and Création Africa

Image
Logo if sans fond

FOCUS programs are organized by the Institut français in partnership with major French events or with partners that attract the interest of foreign professionals. They gather a select group of professionals for a few days, offering an artistic and professional program focused on specific industries. The purpose of these events is to promote French cultural creation sectors worldwide, facilitate their distribution, and foster connections between professionals within those sectors.

As part of the Création Africa program launched by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Institut français implements various initiatives to support the transformation dynamics of the partnership with the African continent and promote African Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI). Throughout 2024, the Institut français will host professional mobility programs in sectors such as series, video games, music, and visual arts, offering African professionals opportunities to participate in major cultural events in France and Africa.

In resonance with the FOCUS BD & Webtoon – Création Africa, the Institut français will invite a delegation of 11 French webtoon professionals to participate in the Bilili BD Festival in Congo from December 2 to 8, 2024.
