The Etoffe de l'Europe™ is based on the metaphor of weaving. By combining the colours of the flags of the 27 members countries of the European Union, it symbolises the constantly evolving construction of Europe.

To meet the constraints of the site, the textile installation in the atrium of the Justus Lipsius building is light and flexible. The space can thus be vacated for certain occasions.

The project also presents a reflection on data, through the notion of data-weaving. As the European Union grows, this frieze is enriched with the colours of the flags of the new member countries.

The use of data brings a scientific value and a precious rigour to the project. It allows art to be linked with history and science.

Aour Europe - L'Étoffe de l’Europe™

The visual artist Jacques Perconte, a pioneer of digital art in France, has contributed to the Etoffe de l'Europe™ by creating Aour Europe. This digital and sound work, made up of a living tapestry of animated images, is based on videos of natural landscapes filmed by the artist during his various journeys across Europe.

L'Etoffe de l'Europe™ also presents the work of textile designer Jeanne Goutelle. She has designed 5 screens, weaving straps and ribbons using waste from the textile industry in Saint-Etienne. The selected ribbons cover a variety of blues, whites and reds, in reference to the colours of the French flag. These woven alcoves, entitled Intersection(s), dialogue with the collections of the Mobilier National
