A French journalist of Congolese origin, Douce Dibondo addresses societal issues from a revolutionary afrofeminist, queer, and spiritual perspective. Born in 1993 in the Republic of Congo, Douce Dibondo is a French journalist and feminist activist, advocating as a Black, queer, and afrofeminist woman. From a young age, she was drawn to professions linked to sociology, as well as roles in public relations and journalism. After earning a literary baccalaureate, she pursued her studies in Tours, obtaining a degree in sociology, followed by two master’s degrees in political science (Bordeaux) and information and communication (Nantes). In 2016, she began working as a freelance journalist for magazines such as Komitid, Paulette, TelQuel, and Censored Magazine, alongside her job as a hostess.
In 2017, she joined the afro-centered media platform Nothing But The Wax as an intern, where she documented the stories of Black and Afro-descendant individuals. During this time, she met Anthony Vincent, another writer for the platform, with whom she created the podcast Extimité. This project envisions a free space where individuals choose to tell their stories in the first person, free from colonial, sexist, or heteronormative filters. Simultaneously, Douce Dibondo contributed to the project L’Encyclopédie des migrants (The Migrants' Encyclopedia), launched by Paloma Fernández Sobrino and the Rennes-based association L’Âge de la tortue, which gathered 400 testimonies from migrant individuals.
Through her writing, Douce Dibondo sheds light on the theme of Blackness, intertwined with queerness, feminism, and decoloniality. In her first two poetry collections, Métacures and Infra/seum, she uses poetry as a means to express anger and rage, working language as a form of provocation. Acting as a raw mirror, her poetry becomes a lens through which to observe the world and its social dynamics, haunted by various forms of domination. In 2024, she published a striking essay, La Charge raciale - Vertige d’un silence écrasant, a political manual for emancipation blending psychoanalysis, art, and personal testimonies.
The concept of racial charge, theorized by scholar Maboula Soumahoro, highlights how racialized individuals are compelled to adapt to racism and stereotypes while conforming to a certain standard of exemplary behavior. In this context, Douce Dibondo examines the inherent violence of this racial charge across all areas of daily life.
In 2019, Douce Dibondo won the Bondy Blog award in the radio category for the podcast Extimité, co-created with Anthony Vincent. She has also been a member of the Collage Afroféministe and MWASI collectives, as well as the Association des Journalistes LGBTI (AJL). In 2024, she invited Audrey Couppé de Kermadec to perform at the Fondation Pernod Ricard as part of the exhibition matter gone wild by Joserfa Ntjam.
That same year, she was among the Indian, French, and German authors invited to a 15-day residency in India by the Franco-German Cultural Fund. As part of this residency, she participated in the project “Queer Caravan: Stories from India, France, Germany”, which aims to amplify marginalized voices. She was one of two French residents, alongside podcaster Jamal Ouazzani, author of the essay Révolutionner l’amour grâce à la sagesse arabe/musulmane.
