Born in 1967 in Dakar, N’Goné Fall is a curator, essayist and cultural policies specialist. A graduate of the École Spéciale d’Architecture in Paris, she was the editor of the contemporary African art magazine Revue Noire from 1994 to 2001. As a cultural policies specialist, she is the author of strategic plans, orientation programmes and evaluation reports for governments as well as for national and international cultural institutions in Africa, Europe, Asia, the USA and the Caribbean. She has been an associate professor at the Senghor University of Alexandria in Egypt and has also taught at the Michaelis School of Fine Arts in Cape Town in 2017 and at the Arts & Culture department at Abdou Moumouni University in Niamey in 2018. She has designed exhibitions in Africa, Europe and the USA. N'Goné Fall is co-founder of the Dakar-based GawLab Collective, a platform for research and production of art in urban spaces and digital technologies applied to artistic creativity

Committed to African culture and arts since the beginning, N’Goné Fall has travelled the continent to meet its artists. Her experiences are influenced by the philosophy of pan-Africanism, the desire to pass on knowledge, and her involvement in making women more visible in art and society. Through her various projects, N’Goné Fall promotes a plural, mixed and cross-cutting African culture. She broadens the scope of culture beyond the arts, drawing on the fields of science and economy, as well as sports, design and gastronomy.

In November 2017, President Emmanuel Macron broke with the tradition of twinning between two countries: for the first time he invited an entire continent and its 54 countries. N’Goné Fall agreed to take up the challenge and decided to direct the season towards a pan-African and multidisciplinary project. Its aim is to give the continent, in all its plurality, a voice. Designed around the major challenges of the 21st century, the Africa 2020 Season will present the views of the continent’s African civil society and its recent diaspora. Africa2020 will be the sounding board for these changemakers who are impacting contemporary societies. The various projects will come from players on the African continent who will join forces with organisations in mainland France and overseas. Five major themes with purposefully poetic titles structure the season: augmented orality, economy and fabulation, archiving of imaginary stories, fiction and (un)authorised movements, and systems of disobedience. Between otherness and humanity, N’Goné Fall wants Africa to tell its own story.
