"Corps extrêmes" by Rachid Ouramdane on tour in Asia

An essential choreographer

Originally from Nîmes, where he was born in 1971, Rachid Ouramdane has made a name for himself as a contemporary dancer and choreographer. In 1992, he graduated from the Centre national de danse contemporaine in Angers, and went on to dance alongside Hervé Robbe, Emmanuelle Huynh, Catherine Contour, Alain Buffard, Jeremy Nelson, Odile Duboc, and Meg Stuart. In 2007, he founded his own company, "L’A". Through numerous projects blending dance and documentary, he has collaborated with videographers, lighting designers, and musicians.

A high-flying performance

In "Corps Extrêmes", Rachid Ouramdane brings together acrobats, aerialists, and elite athletes, including record-holding tightrope walker Nathan Paulin, to take on the challenge of dancing in the air. The installed climbing wall serves as both a launchpad and a projection surface, showcasing breathtaking stunts and stunning landscapes. Designed as an aerial ballet, the performance seeks to defy gravity while allowing these artists to soar to new heights.

An ode to self-transcendence

Rachid Ouramdane envisions a reflection on freedom, testing the limits of each performer and their ability to push further. Through the athletes' testimonies, shared during the performance, he explores their relationship with suspension and the void, while questioning their sensitivity and skill in navigating the world around them. On the edge of the precipice, the artists leap, soar, support one another, and carry each other through a daring choreography driven by the desire to evoke self-transcendence, solidarity, and personal challenges.
