A Vision of the Future
Gala Hernández López’s work follows a woman who dreams of a future economic crisis affecting the cryptocurrency market. In this split-screen science-fiction documentary, the artist films tens of thousands of cryogenically frozen individuals hoping for a better future, questioning our relationship with what lies ahead. By exploring the connections between crypto culture and cryogenics, the work unfolds in a nonlinear temporality that mirrors dreams and memory—possibly lost during time travel.
A Journey into Cryptocurrencies
The filmmaker employs collages of YouTube videos, archival footage, and 3D animations to create an immersive experience that delves into the links between financial speculation and science fiction. Throughout the documentary, the extropian and cypherpunk figure Hal Finney, one of the key players in Bitcoin's history, appears in an imaginary conversation that traces fears of the future and revisits the fantasies surrounding cryptocurrencies. This audiovisual journey is dreamlike, poetic, historical, and futuristic.
