Nooshin Shafiee, Iranian photographer in residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts
10 minThe Institut français, with the support and by delegation of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, allows nearly 70 artists from all over the world to benefit from a residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts, in the heart of the Marais in Paris, every year.
This scheme enables artists to develop research and creative projects in all artistic disciplines. Residents benefit from artistic support from the Institut français, its partners and the Cité Internationale des Arts in order to pursue their projects and meet professionals from the French artistic scene.

Nooshin Shafiee has had several solo exhibitions: one at the Badisches Landesmuseum in Karlsruhe - Germany (2019-2020) and three at the Emkan Gallery in Tehran - Iran (Daaj - 2016, Fun Fair - 2018 and Batten - 2020). She has also participated in group exhibitions including Iran: année 38 at the Rencontres d'Arles 2017.

During the course of her studies, Nooshin Shafiee discovered the work of the great French masters of photography such as Eugène Atget, Jacques Henri Lartigue, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Brassaï. She is particularly drawn to the work of William Klein.

Yet it is in her own relationship to Tehran that she feels the same deep connection as each of these artists to the city of Paris. "It is almost seven years that I have been obsessed with urban photography and Tehran has been my main object of desire" (2021).

After photographing and discovering Tehran, Nooshin Shafiee conducted research in Paris using the same process, discovering her own individuality through the city and working to publish a photo book inspired by the work Paris + Klein (2002).
