A look back at the Cruzamentos#2 residencies at Villa Tijuca in Brazil
5 minFor the second edition of the Cruzamentos programme dedicated to the performing arts, Villa Tijuca welcomed 28 artists in residence in 5 cities in Brazil and 2 cities in France over the course of 2023.
Supported by "La Fabrique des Résidences" of the Institut Français, the Cruzamentos programme is the result of a twinning between the network of Alliances Françaises in Brazil with Chaillot - Théâtre national de la Danse (Paris, France) and the MC2: Grenoble - Maison de la Culture (Grenoble, France), and in cooperation with Funarte (Brazil).

2/10Dîner Servi / Jantar Servido
Performance of the show Dîner at the MC2: Grenoble by the Spectrolab collective. Founded in Cuiabá, the Coletivo Spectrolab has teamed up with its French branch to create the show Dîner using masks and animated objects. Set in the Amazon, in a village of gold miners, the show denounces the risks and damage associated with mining and the massive creation of new technologies.

3/10Dîner Servi / Jantar Servido
Inspired by the Amazonian legend of the 'Capelobo', a hybrid creature that is half human and half giant anteater, Brazilian puppeteers Millena Machado and Douglas Peron recycle electronic waste and transform it into masks and sets directed by artist Rakoo de Andrade, assisted by lighting designer Laurine Chalon.

The project is a collaboration between ATeKa compagnie, under the artistic direction of Abdoulaye Trésor Konaté, and Coletivo CIDA based in Natal (Rio Grande do Norte), with performances and co-creations by René Loui, Jânia Santos, Marconi Araujo and Rozeane Oliveira. After a month's residency in Natal, the artists were welcomed at the MC2: Grenoble.

6/10Jeux Croisés - Temps, déplacement et expansion / Jogos de Encruzilhada - Tempo, deslocamento e expansão
Manuela Figueiredo is an actress. Nila Clara is an opera singer. Mariame Damba is a dancer. Together, they formed a collective during the first stage of an artistic residency at the Alliance Française de São Paulo. The residency gave rise to a cross-disciplinary creation that highlights the stories of three women and their experiences of exile.

7/10Jeux Croisés - Temps, déplacement et expansion / Jogos de Encruzilhada - Tempo, deslocamento e expansão
Dance, text and music intertwine on stage to weave tales past and present, drawing the link between the transatlantic slave trade and contemporary migration. They cross paths, talk and talk to each other, with poetry and humour, revealing their intimate experiences. The residency continued at the Théâtre National de Chaillot.

Led by Brazilian artist Ivani Santana and French artists Cyril Hernandez and Caroline Boudouin, from the company La Truc, the "Potentialités numériques" project focuses on two themes: the stories of "being a woman" and "digital poetics". The first few weeks of the residency were devoted to developing the show "As histórias de @evamariageni", which already exists in the Brazilian version, so as to augment it in the form of an interactive installation.
