A look back at the 1st Franco-Belgian Game Jam!
A week of creative effervescence took place in the world of video games with the very first Franco-Belgian Game Jam. Held at Plaine Images in Tourcoing from 26 February to 1 March 2024, the event brought together 60 students and teachers from three French schools (ARTFX, PIKTURA and RUBIKA) and two Belgian schools (Haute école Albert Jacquard and HOWEST). The aim of this cross-border Game Jam was to strengthen cooperation within the video game eco-system and encourage student mobility in this field of excellence between the two countries.

This major Game Jam helped to incubate a new generation of French and Belgian talent. The seven teams had 2 and a half days to develop a game on the theme: "Mondes souterrains. 20 000 lieux sous la terre", in partnership with the Louvre-Lens. You can discover the seven games created in record time on the Itch platform.
A prestigious panel of judges came together to discover and test the games:
- Frederica Nocerino, Women in Games, president of the jury.
- Laurent Peroy, Game In
- Jean Gréban, WALGA
- Gregory Boulahouache, Academic Software
- Benjamin Coquelle, Ishtar Games
- Julie Belzanne, Ludogram
- Camille Klein, Louvre-Lens.
The winner of the Jury Prize was Miners Mayhem, developed by DigDigDig! The Community Prize went to Jagermasters for its game "Catacombs of the Ennead"! Congratulations to all the winning teams!
The Game Jam was organised by the French Embassy in Belgium and Plaine Images. It was supported by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Institut français and the Hauts-de-France Region as part of their partnership, the Lille European Metropolis, the Lille-Kortrijk-Tournai Eurometropolis and Academic Software.
It follows on from the « Images numériques » itinerary organised in 2023 by the Institut français and the Hauts-de-France Region.
The return event will be held in Belgium in 2025. We can't wait!
