In 2024, the Institut français in Germany and its partners particularly highlighted Francophonie through the co-presidency of France and the Republic of Congo within the group of Francophone embassies in Berlin. It represents a unique opportunity to strengthen Franco-German relations through the French language. The Relais Terre de Jeux, the Francophonie celebration, the French Film Week, and more recently, the Francophonie Festival, have all provided opportunities to broaden horizons towards Francophonie. 

The opening night on September 22, 2024, at the Centre français de Berlin highlighted Francophone humor by bringing together the Berlin-based Baguette Comedy Club and comedian Mahaut Drama, with the support of the Montreux Comedy Festival, the largest Francophone comedy festival. It was an evening that joyfully portrayed Berlin life, Franco-German relations, and Francophonie. 

After this kickoff, the day of September 23 continued just as excitingly at the Institut français in Berlin with a presentation of the professions of the Cité internationale to German students, in collaboration with the Franco-German Youth Office. A reading of Francophone tales took place at the media library in the afternoon, while Paul Rondin, director of the Cité, introduced this unique and historic place, along with its permanent playful exhibit on the French language. 

The day concluded with a roundtable discussion on the theme "French, a world-language in a world of languages," featuring the exceptional presence of Barbara Cassin, philologist and member of the Académie française, who initiated the "Dictionary of Untranslatables" project. The diverse group of other guests enriched the dialogue on the French language, including Edith Antoinette Itoua, Ambassador of the Republic of Congo to Germany, German translator Andreas Jandl, actor and director Olivier Martin-Salvan, and Franco-Gabonese rapper Vicky R. Throughout the evening, literary and musical interludes punctuated the discussions on themes such as artificial intelligence, French as a language of African national unity, translation challenges, the evolution of the language, and its appropriation by the younger generation. 

On September 24, the show "Proses," a blend of writing, rap, and classical music, beautifully closed the Francophonie Festival. This unique Franco-German version, featuring a French rapper and a Berlin string quartet from the Philharmonie, thrilled the audience. The writing workshop by the Berlin collective "L'Hôtel des Autrices" was also a highlight for all participants. On the final evening, the diversity and creativity of the French language were once again widely celebrated, successfully concluding the festival.
