Shoot the Book! is a program of professional meetings designed to support the presence of French publishers on major international audiovisual markets and to promote the audiovisual adaptation of French literary fiction.

This action is more broadly in line with the transmedia approach that the French Institute is developing to strengthen the place of French books, in synergy with other cultural creative industries, on growing or emerging rights markets.

An initiative of the Société civile des éditeurs de langue française (SCELF) and the Marché du film - Festival de Cannes, the Shoot the Book! operation is organized during major international professional and artistic film events. The Institut français supports the program's international development in France, as part of the Cannes International Film Festival, and around the world, with the French cultural network abroad.

Shoot the Book! proposes to bring together pre-selected French publishers and international producers looking for future adaptation projects through :

  • Training in international adaptation markets via a program of meetings, roundtables and conferences on the particularities and major trends of these artistic, legal and economic ecosystems
  • A pitch session offering publishers the chance to present books selected for their adaptation potential by a jury of international audiovisual professionals
  • Professional meeting sessions between producers and publishers
