NFT exhibition: The Wake, another dimension

  • Sénégal
From 7 November 2024 to 7 December 2024
The Institut français is partnering a group exhibition dedicated to NFT, curated by Anna-Alix Koffi, director of the SOMETHING center in Abidjan, to present the work of 11 artists from the continent and the African diaspora during the Dakar Biennale.

Proposed as part of the “Special Projects” of the Biennale de Dakar, in resonance with the theme of the 2024 edition, “The Wake, l'Éveil, Xàll wi”, this exhibition entirely dedicated to NFT works will then be hosted in Abidjan, Cameroon, Marrakech as part of 1:54, and will continue its international tour.

Anna-Alix Koffi, the exhibition's curator, proposes a reflection on the impact of Crypto Art as an empowering tool for artists in contemporary art. By guaranteeing authenticity and traceability via blockchain, NFTs open up new avenues for creating, selling and collecting works, transforming market dynamics and offering new opportunities for artists.

As part of Création Africa, this group exhibition supports innovative new dynamics on the continent, and has received the support of the French Institute of Senegal on site, as well as several French Institutes and cooperation services on the continent from which the artists come, notably Ghana, Morocco, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire and Nigeria.
