Season of Lithuania in France

French professionals / Foreign professionals
During a visit to Paris in November 2021, Presidents Emmanuel Macron and Gitanas Nausėda decided to organize a Season of Lithuania in France in the fall of 2024.

This Season will highlight the culture and history of this country from both a heritage and contemporary perspective. It will allow to establish and strengthen lasting cooperation between professionals from France and Lithuania. It will invite us to debate major contemporary issues within the European Union around human rights and climate emergency, and to share the values of freedom, democracy and equality.

Its curatorship has been entrusted to Ms. Virginija Vitkienė, General Director of "Kaunas - European Capital of Culture 2022".

A call for expressions of interest and a call for projects have been published on the websites of the Institut français  and the Lithuanian Cultural Institute, allowing interested French and Lithuanian partners to propose a project within the framework of the Season, according to the following criteria:

  1. to increase the visibility and knowledge of contemporary Lithuanian culture among French audiences;
  2. to consolidate and give impetus to the values attached to Europe's present and future: human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, human rights and climate resilience;
  3. to create, in collaboration with French and Lithuanian partners, a project focusing on the history, culture and values shared by Lithuanians and French;
  4. to seek lasting partnerships and collaborations between French and Lithuanian institutions and professionals;
  5. reach out to a variety of audiences, particularly young people.

  The proposals also had to fit in with at least one of the themes proposed by the curator in her note of intent: Global Neighbourhood, Diversity and Identities, and Unbridled Imagination.   All the projects submitted will be examined by the end of the first quarter of 2024.
